Barnsley Minors League

The Barnsley Minors League was formed back in 1981 and aims to give swimmers, who are working towards county qualification, the chance to take part in league competition galas.

​

The league consists of 4 divisions, with 4 local clubs competing in each division. A series of 4 galas are held in each division each year, with points being won for a range of events in each gala. Swimmers compete in individual 50m events and team relay races by age group (10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, and 'Open').

At the end of each year, the top club from each division is promoted to the division above and the club with the least amount of points is relegated to the division below.

About the Barnsley Minors League & Brief History

The League was formed on the 1st February 1981 and originally comprised of the following clubs:

Barnsley, Knottingley, Spenborough, Morley, Barnsley, and Stocksbridge.

 

Currently the League consists of four divisions with four clubs in each division, competing in four league gala's throughout the year. The league provides opportunities for competitive swimmers who may not yet be competing at county level or above to gain experience in a competition.

 

The League is open to four age groups (based on age at 31st December):

10yrs & under - 12yrs & under - 14yrs & under and Open age group .

Competitions include:

• 50m individual events

• 4 x 25m relays (10yrs and under)

• 4 x 50m relays (12yrs, 14yrs and Open)

• An 8 x 25m mixed freestyle cannon (one boy and one girl from each age group)
